4Children announce the 2nd annual RAF Family Hero Awards!

15 August 2012

The RAF Benevolent Fund, the RAF’s leading welfare charity, and national charity 4Children have teamed up with Take a Break magazine to open nominations for the 2nd annual RAF Family Hero Award.

The award recognises members of the RAF community who have made a significant impact on the lives of RAF children, young people and families. The award applies to those within the serving RAF family and those who support it.

Anyone can be nominated, from serving RAF personnel and their partners to teachers, volunteers, cadets and cadet leaders.

Paul Hughesdon, Director of Welfare and Policy for the RAF Benevolent Fund said:

At the RAF Benevolent Fund we work hard to ease the pressure on serving RAF personnel, funding projects like our £24 million Airplay programme and free relationship advice. However, we know that there are people out there who make vital but unsung contributions to life on station every day, without looking for thanks or praise.

As the charity at the heart of the RAF family, we’re delighted to work with 4Children and Take a Break to run the RAF Family Hero award. It’s a great way for us all to recognise those who do invaluable work behind the scenes to help hard-pressed RAF families. I encourage everyone to nominate all those who do things large or small within the RAF community, and to recognise the many heroes that we have within the RAF community.”

Anne Longfield OBE, Chief Executive of 4Children said:

Since 4Children began to work alongside RAF Community Support Teams, delivering the Youth Support element of Airplay, our staffs have learned a great deal about the unique community life on RAF stations. There are many people out there who provide large and small-scale but much needed support for RAF families, and this is an opportunity to give something back to them for all that hard work.”

4Children

4Children is the national charity all about children and families. We have spearheaded a joined-up, integrated approach to children’s services and work with a wide range of partners around the country to ensure children and families have access to the services and support they need in their communities.

We run Sure Start Children’s Centres as well as family and youth services across Britain.

We develop, influence and shape national policy on all aspects of the lives of children, young people and families. As the Government’s strategic partner for early years and childcare we have a crucial role in co-producing policy with the Department of Education and representing the sector’s views and experiences. Our national campaigns, like Give Me Strength, change policy and practice and put the needs of children and families on the political and policy agenda.
