Research Reports
4Children aims to support it’s policy and campaigns work with innovative research programmes.
Some recent examples of this important work include:
• Youth Offer for the 21st Century
These papers highlight the gaps and weaknesses in current youth provision and propose a bold new approach to deliver targeted interventions, alongside a universal offer.
• Extended Schools Survey 2005
This study was conducted in February 2004 among 1159 schools to assess the interest in and likely engagement with the Extended Schools Initiative with particulare reference to Childcare Provision.
• Sainsbury’s Food for Thought Survey 2003
A 2003 in-depth survey sponsored by Sainsbury’s and carried out with children, playworkers and parents into children’s eating and purchasing habits.
• Extended Schools 2003 (downloadable soon)
Funded by the DfES, 4Children has also carried out investigative research into the benefits and barriers to the Government’s Extended Use of Schools legislation, which has helped to advise how this policy can be best put into practice.
• Make Space Campaign Research 2002
In 2002, 4Children also carried out some very influential quantitative and qualitative studies with young people, parents and youth workers for the Make Space Campaign, funded by the Nestlé Trust. This research revealed that the vast majority of young people have nothing to do and nowhere to go during out of school hours. The final Nestlé Family Monitor report formed the backbone of the Make Space campaign.
