Wren Music is a Devon based music organisation, established in 1983. The Wren go out to people, listen to what they want, see what they can do and together make things happen. Their vision is ”a world where every voice is heard’ and mission “to inspire creativity and celebrate cultural identities”.

The Wren is working with 6 clubs in Devon. Each session will include song and instruments and some movement e.g. dance.

Project Outline
The song session starts with a “hello’ song and some basic vocal warm up, moving through songs that are easy to join in, songs with substitution, songs where the children can suggest the arrangement. Children and staff will be invited to share their favourite songs.

The instrument session starts with an illustration about the instruments, the a “free time” where the children explore the instruments, moving into being shown patterns on the instruments, building into a band playing a tune.

There will follow a combination of individual, small group and big group work while the children will have an opportunity to choose their “home” instrument i.e. the one they like most and want to use regularly.

The session finishes with a quite time for reflection and evaluation, where everyone will contribute to a discussion based on what went well, what was not so good and identifying improvements for the next session.

Groups are being left with copies of songs and tunes in whichever format they prefer, e.g. cassette, CD or paper.
