Southend

Musiko Musika are working with 4 clubs in Southend.

Project Outline

Aims of Come and Play in Southend are:
• To engage children in learning new musical skills
• To provide the opportunity for children to express, share and develop their ideas in a creative and stimulating musical environment
• To enable children to experience music making as part of a musical ensemble
• To provide an opportunity for children to achieve a tangible and successful outcome from their time spent at the play centre

The clubs will explore the following types of music:
A) Singing and song writing from around the world – Learning and singing songs from different cultures, composing original songs, with support activities including the development of rhythm and singing skills

B) Music Technology – Using laptop based software (Garageband and Protools) to develop original musical tracks, including the use of sequencing and recording techniques. A CD would be produced for each participant following completion of the work

C) Instrument making – Making a set of Sikus (panpipes) and learning how to play them, including developing ensemble and craft skills. The instruments are finished to a good playing standard and available for participants to take home following completion of the work

D) Instrumental Composition – Using a range of instruments including percussion and Sikus (panpipes) to compose original pieces of music, with support activities including the development of rhythm and instrumental skills
