“Ensuring children’s safety is every parent’s top priority. We strongly support the aims of the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Bill which will create a single database of individuals barred from working with children, and impose heavy fines on those who employ such people or fail to carry out proper checks. This should mean a simpler system and greater piece of mind for parents.

“4Children has consistently raised the potential risks of having separate registers for teachers and other people working with children. Many thousands of children attend breakfast and after school clubs every day, and ensuring their safety is just as crucial as for pupils in schools. That’s why we are pleased that this new register will cover everyone working with children, including in childcare settings”.
