The Performance
The Performance The four year old group Flava entertained at The Philip Lawrence Awards. The group performed their workshop entitled "B Inspired." This act is designed to encourage children and young adults to focus during those crucial years of growing up. The group uses their passion of dance to spread a positive message. “Dance has haleped me get through some really tough times and on a personal level I don't know where my life might have gone if I didn't have it as a focus" says Flava dancer Becky Gowers, "We just want to give other people the same opportunity to find happiness through dance.”
The Music The inspiration for the composition in the 2008 Philip Lawrence Awards were Philip Lawrence's own inspiring words "Every child is capable of greatness." The song has a Caribbean dance feel. Simon Lasky, creator, want the composition to be uplifting. Lasky has said this about his music:
“12 years from the inception of the Awards, Philip's mantra has never been more true. His affirmation suggests the great potential inherent in every child to succeed, given the right guidance and circumstances. Similarly, in this music, I have attempted to unlock the potential in the familiar Philip Lawrence Awards 'theme tune'- initially composed 10 years ago by young musicians from Trinity College of Music- by scoring this emotive melody for a conventional pop band line-up and some of London's most talented singers. The music journeys through some soulful, then funky, material before reaching a setting of Philip's stirring words scored for the three singers in up-lifing harmony."
