The Home Secretary, The Rt. Hon Jacqui Smith MP, on the 2007 Awards:
This is the 11th year of The Philip Lawrence Awards and I am delighted to have this opportunity to be able to congratulate all of this year’s winners. It is a real pleasure to see good citizenship amongst young people being recognised and rewarded.
Like many of the organisations and individuals associated with The Philip Lawrence Awards, I want to do more to promote the tremendous contribution that young people make. We have a huge challenge to share in changing perceptions of young people and these winners are a part of the really positive news.
These Awards recognise the fantastic contribution that young people make to their communities. To be a winner is recognition of this contribution, and I warmly welcome the opportunity to offer my congratulations to all those who have been successful this year.
