Mitalee Summer School Project

Mitalee Summer School Project

Is: A project providing a range of social, educational and recreational activities and opportunities to young people in Bury Park, Luton
Based: Luton, Bedfordshire
Begun: 1997
Involves: 15 young people as volunteers, 200+ beneficiaries
Contact: mitalee@totalise.co.uk

About: The Mitalee Summer School Project provides young people with things to do – including various indoor and outdoor sports activities and games, swimming, trips, martial arts, residential programmes, drama and film production and volunteering opportunities. Workshops cover issues such as drugs awareness and community safety. The young people are trained so they can develop and deliver a range of activities for their peer group. This promotes community cohesion, addresses anti-social behaviours and provides culturally/religiously appropriate activities.

“It’s entertaining and interesting. It helped me to do something in my spare time. It provides a place for youths and jobs or voluntary jobs for either fun or finance.”
14 year old project member, male, Gujrati background
