Shared Vision
We provide services and facilities for young women aged 11 to 20 in order to create a better community, better relationships and better lives Who we are…Founded by two sisters who manage 15 volunteers for 500+ beneficiaries Where we’re based…Bradford, West Yorkshire When we started…December 2006 How we started…We carried out a survey in schools and centres and found that many young women, especially Asian and European, felt isolated from community activities/services and that no effort was made to help them integrate with other young women. With these findings in mind we founded Shared Vision in order to eradicate segregation. Our work…We meet every week to discuss the format of upcoming events/activities which is usually followed by a finance and management meeting. We arrange outings and activities including sports, dance, fitness classes and arts to promote confidence, motivation and self esteem in young women. We book the venues, provide information and give reminders of events/classes. Many young women participated with us in the very successful Women’s Day Galore event, getting to know us and what we can offer them. Future plans…New office space at a community centre will help us gain permanent members from different backgrounds. We will continue to be involved in annual Women’s Days in order to provide an enhanced and unique package of services each year and want to provide more outings and classes on sewing, cooking, and hair and beauty. I didn’t want to live in a community that people were bored of, I wanted an interesting community that brought challenges at every corner and that’s what Shared Vision set out to achieve.”Imrana Farooq, Assistant Manager of Shared Vision
