Springhill Community Radio Project

Springhill Community Radio Project

Is: A school radio station addressing anti-social issues
Based: Rochdale, Lancashire
Begun: 2004
Involves: 6 young people

About: The student led Springhill Community Radio Project broadcasts music, news, interviews and all kinds of information and advice over school lunch times to tackle anti-social issues including bullying, discrimination and racism. Each week a particular theme is covered. Opportunities and facilities in the neighbourhood are limited, so the project allows the young people in the area to get involved and gain useful skills while providing a community service.

“It is our responsibility to raise our own issues and present our show successfully, raising awareness of the problems that affect young people in general. The community gains a great deal from the project throughout our daily broadcasts.”
Rizwan Khan, member of the radio broadcasting team
