Early Years Foundation Stage

Setting the standards for learning, development and care for children from birth to five - an introduction

Tell us your experiences of the EYFS by taking our survey today.

Every child deserves the best possible start in life, with quality integrated support. The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) has been developed to provide a robust framework for providing this support.

From September 2008, the EYFS is being delivered by schools and providers registered by Ofsted on the Early Years Register looking after children aged 5 and under; its standards enable providers to reflect the rich and personalised experience that many parents give their children at home.

All providers have an important role to play in children’s early years experiences, supported by a host of professionals and agencies working together to meet the varied needs of children.
