The Sure Start Scarborough Children’s Centre offers more than just services to children. They have a volunteer project, The Parent Network, which is made up parent volunteers whom Sure Start nominated for the award. The parents of the children who attend the centre run their own groups, providing support for young parents, new parents and newcomers to the group.

The Parent Network plan and run events which benefit parents and children alike. Since the parents themselves are the ones behind many of the services the centre offers, they have played a strong role in shaping the delivery, monitoring and evaluation of the programme. The Parent Network is working towards improving services currently offered to disabled parents and will be encouraging them to assist in identifying and bridging the gaps in the existing service.
