Public Affairs & Communications Volunteer, London

Location: 4Children, City Reach, 5 Greenwich View Place, London, E14 9NN Hours: 3 days per week Salary: Expenses only Pro rata Closing date: 17 April 2015

4Children is the national children and families’ charity. We develop, influence and shape national policy on all aspects of the lives of children, young people and families, and work with a wide range of partners to deliver real support for children and families in their community. We are one of the largest not-for-profit Children’s Centre providers in the country.

The Public Affairs and Communications team helps to develop and shape policy and public debate to ensure all children receive the best start in life. Our work covers a wide range of areas including Children’s Centres, childcare, young people and vulnerable families.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to be involved in a wide range of policy, parliamentary and media activities undertaken by the Public Affairs and Communications team. This could include supporting the team by compiling internal media summaries, assisting with the organisation of events, liaising with parliamentary contacts and helping us to produce policy briefings.

We are looking for a confident, proactive and ambitious self-starter with strong written and verbal communication skills, administrative abilities, a passion for children and family issues and an interest in policy and politics. Previous experience of working in a public affairs or policy environment, such as in an MP’s office, is desirable but not essential.

The post will be based at our London Head Office near Canary Wharf. We are ideally looking for someone who is available for an immediate start and has the capacity to help us for 3 days a week, for a period of at least 3 months, although we are happy to discuss these arrangements with the successful candidate.

Please note that this is an unpaid voluntary position, although we are able to reimburse travel expenses within London (Zones 1-6) and provide a daily lunch allowance.

The deadline for applications is 5pm on Friday 17th April. Interviews will be held on Thursday 23rd April and Friday 24th April.

Due to the high volume of applications we receive, we are unfortunately unable to provide feedback to candidates who are not short-listed for interview.
