4Children announce co-management of RAF Halton in Buckinghamshire

22 August 2012

As part of 4Children’s aim to support families and children throughout the UK, the national charity will help to open a nursery at the RAF base in Halton in Buckinghamshire on 1st September. http://www.4children.org.uk/Home

The new nursery will provide 54 places to children attending Nursery and will join 4Children’s growing network of Children’s centres and nurseries across the country.

In partnership with others, 4Children will continue to draw upon the high quality of its growing portfolio of children’s centre’s to deliver services that:

  • Are closely integrated with health, schools, family support, employment and safeguarding;
  • Take a whole family approach – supporting and strengthening families and working with early intervention and prevention throughout;
  • Are at the heart of the community with community and engagement and delivery at its core;
  • Work with families as their children grow up – delivering services within a wider framework of 0 – 11 support;
  • Makes quality a top priority with 30% of early services now reaching outstanding – double the national average with all due to reach outstanding over 2 years.

Charles Ellis, Deputy Chief Executive of 4Children, said:

Not only do non-serving parents have to deal with anxiety over the welfare of their partner, but they also have to cope with frequent relocation, often to remote, rural locations which can be far away from family and friends. They also face the added strain of bringing up children alone for extended periods.

RAF centres like these will therefore provide these families – and civilian ones – with a broader range of activities for young people, and invaluable support for parents and carers. In turn, we hope to relieve some of their stresses and strains and therefore continue to support the serving forces on whom our country depends.”

Julie Williams, Head of Childcare Services for 4Children said:

Through the expertise of 4Children and existing staff, we are confident that the children and families that attend our children’s centres in Haltom in Buckinghamshire will receive a quality experience that supports their care, learning and development.

As a result, not only will the new nursery setting improve the quality of life for RAF children – as well as civilian ones – but will also take the strain off the partners of serving personnel, who can relax and enjoy some much-needed time off, knowing that their children are being taken of in an environment which is both safe and stimulating.

4Children

4Children is the national charity all about children and families. We have spearheaded a joined-up, integrated approach to children’s services and work with a wide range of partners around the country to ensure children and families have access to the services and support they need in their communities.

We run Sure Start Children’s Centres as well as family and youth services across Britain.

We develop, influence and shape national policy on all aspects of the lives of children, young people and families. As the Government’s strategic partner for early years and childcare we have a crucial role in co-producing policy with the Department of Education and representing the sector’s views and experiences. Our national campaigns, like Give Me Strength, change policy and practice and put the needs of children and families on the political and policy agenda.
