East Family Hero 2014 - Casey Burke

Matilda nominated Casey for a Family Hero award so she could show the world how lovely her best friend is. At only 5 years old these two little girls have shared a story, which has gone on to inspire a country.

Both Casey and Matilda have cerebral palsy and met at school. There is an operation called the SDR operation, which although Casey sadly wasn’t eligible for Matilda was. This operation meant Matilda would be able to walk unaided for the first time in her life. This news was fantastic until the family started struggling with the potential cost of the operation but Casey had a plan to raise every penny. If 25,648 people donated 1 pound each her friend would be able to walk.

Casey at only 5 has shown that with determination and belief anything is possible. She is a best friend in every sense of the word and shows nothing but happiness for Matilda even though she is still unable to walk herself. Casey is Matilda’s hero.
