4Children’s response to Beverley Hughes’ announced plans to ensure the most disadvantaged benefit from Sure Start Children’s Centres
Following the announcement made last week (05.10.06) by the Minister for Children, Young People and Families, today Anne Longfield OBE, Chief Executive of 4Children, said:
"There can be no doubt that Sure Start Children’s Centres are having a marked impact on providing better life opportunities for thousands of children and families right across the country. New initiatives to reach the most disadvantaged families, announced by the Children’s Minister, are greatly welcomed by 4Children. "There is a vital need to reach out to those families who, while in most need of support, may feel uncomfortable utilising services that are there to support everyone in the local community. Making better use of health visitors is one way in which this message can be conveyed. But the move towards fully integrated and joined-up services means that we all have a role to perform. Parents who have benefited from using services can encourage others to do the same."
